Prague and Warsaw knew Moscow would react negatively, but after years of patient diplomacy, they chose to stand with the United States. Canceling the deployment will betray the trust of our allies in Warsaw and Prague, leave Europe defenseless against Iranian missiles, enhance the Kremlin's stature and diminish U.S. credibility. There is no upside. You don't say.

A novel idea
To win a war, you must kill the enemy. Who woulda thunk! Of course, Pepe will never grasp this concept -- too complicated for the pinko mind. But then, if we don't kill the bad guys, I repeat my question: what the hell are we doing over there?

The bloom is gone from Pepe's romance
Proof of all this is not just the waning polls and the grassroots anger of hoi polloi, but a strange and sudden end to last fall's elite-left puff pieces that used to run the gamut from women dreaming of seducing Barack, .. to all sorts of personal testaments about how suddenly the world will be a utopia. That entire genre of liberal therapeutic Obama musings in print and on the screen has quite incredibly simply vanished.
Try Cialis, Pepe.

VDH drinks the objective media Kool-Aid
If the past is any guide to media and public reaction, some predications seem warranted. Obama will enjoy far more patience, since the anti-war left and a liberal media will go easier on a kindred president.
Yet if casualties peak, the American people will sour on Afghanistan as they did on Iraq. Then even Obama, I think unfairly [ ! ], will be blamed in the media for a war that Americans used to think - as in the case once of Iraq - was necessary and just.
And even reluctant Charlie Gibson might have to return to covering Cindy Sheehan's latest pursuit of a beleaguered American president.
Yeah, right. Taranto so much more on the ball.

"The Lockerbie ‘Accident’ [Jay Nordlinger]
In yesterday’s Impromptus, I jabbed a State Department spokesman whose bio calls 9/11 a “tragedy.” A reader has pointed out to me that, in recent days, former secretary of state Madeleine Albright has referred to the Lockerbie terror as an “accident.” (Watch her on YouTube, here.) We all make slips of the tongue, but this is particularly vexing, you may agree.
As you remember, the Obama administration has redefined “terrorism” as “man-caused disaster.” “Man-caused accidents”? How would that ring in Janet Napolitano’s ears?
P.S. When I was in college — grad school, actually — a leftist German student, in a class on the Cold War, referred to — get ready for this — “the Katyn accident.” I hadn’t thought of that in years. Have now."

VDH recaps the basic principle of AmeriSoc: Whether the result is worse or better for everyone involved is extraneous, since sameness is the overarching principle.
Pepe! The Pope of Pop wants your Prepuce!
By the way, leave our penises alone, too. This is getting out of hand. There is a story that some officials in the Obama administration are pushing for circumcision for all boys born in the USA to fight HIV/AIDS. Not that I'm against circumcision, but it's a family's decision. Leave our penises alone, too, Obama! You know who's going to be really upset about this news? NOCIRC, the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers. They're a San Francisco group, and they want to eliminate circumcision. Here's Obama out there saying we gotta have circumcision of every young boy born in the country. This is not going to please the NOCIRC people at all.
Ususally Tecs has precedence on penis stories, but Rush is funnier than the piece Tecs posted.

The Killer Red Wave
Old KGB diehards must be wondering if they are having a wetdream: Pepemania for AmeriSoc offers such a perfect killing instrument of our once Free Republic. They must really hate Reagan for busting their chops back in the 80's. Without him, we would have been in this bazillion dollar fall into Wiemar Republicanism and surging Socialism while the Soviets would have been reaping the full rewards of being last man standing.
The forces behind Obama are engineering the deliberate destruction of this nation. It is that simple.
Even a mainstream wannabe like Yahoo can no longer hide the coming tidal wave behind panglossian delusions or deliberately crafted lies. And the Pepes in their planet? They actually trust the courts of Versailles to be impervious to reality. That will be a rich moment, that last look of total astonishment.

And that was back in the halcyon days, immediately after 9/11. Just imagine how it must be now. Pinko nirvana.

THR: Bill Maher recently said that "America is stupid" and "too dumb to be governed." Do you agree?
Moore: Eight years ago I wrote a book called "Stupid White Men." In that book, I wrote a chapter entitled "Idiot Nation." I think that says it all. Sad, sad, sad.
THR: Have you ever considered leaving the U.S.?
Moore: Thank you for asking! I had never considered this idea until you mentioned it, and now that you have, it doesn't sound like such a bad idea! I guess if I were going to live outside the U.S., I would live in Texas.
THR: What's the No. 1 thing you want to teach your kids?
Moore: Never trust anyone from Texas.

Says Pepe's alter-ego: I agree with Professor Skocpol - “Democrats would be better off to go down fighting for real reform.” I would add that, the Democrats should go all out and ask for Single Payer plan and thus eliminate all private health insurance companies. — Jaque
On second thought...
The letter acknowledges the state changed its succession law in 2004 to require a special election within five months to fill any vacancy. At the time, legislative Democrats — with a wide majority in both chambers — were concerned because then-Republican Gov. Mitt Romney had the power to directly fill any vacancy created as Democratic Sen. John Kerry ran for president. But Kennedy writes "it is vital for this commonwealth to have two voices..." Aahhh, the beauty of pinko logic.

Pinkocare goes Hieronymus Bosch
Many die in filthy, overcrowded hospitals or nursing homes, rife with pestilence, including the deadly, antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" Clostridium difficile and MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). Each year in the U.K., nearly three times more people die from hospital infections than from traffic accidents. ... Patients in government hospitals were told to "go in their beds" when they had diarrhea. ... Poor treatment at just one hospital may have killed up to 1,200 people in three years.
After a harrowing stay at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Lord Benjamin Mancroft, a Conservative member of the House of Lords, spoke out in Parliament, declaring, "It is a miracle that I am still alive." He described "filthy" wards that were "never cleaned" and nurses who were "grubby… slipshod, lazy… drunken and promiscuous."

Deer caught in the headlights
The Democrats did not anticipate that their constituents might like a say in how they were being governed. (That whole "government for, by, and of the people" is so 18th-century.) Or, as Pepe puts it, if those stinking peasants deign raise a peep, it's "presumably to dispel any notion that an intelligent argument is to follow".
C'mon, Mr Rot, give burqinis a chance
"The sight of a 'masked woman' could disturb small children, not to mention problems of hygiene. Imagine a Western woman bathing in a bikini in a Muslim country. The consequences could be decapitation, prison or deportation. We are merely prohibiting the use of the burqini." Racist, fascist, Neanderthal.

Mr Rot says: You got it all wrong, Tecs. Of course a Rep should do what he thinks is right. Oh yeah?
There are also times when one should ignore both a well informed minority, or even an ill informed majority. To ignore the express wishes of an informed majority aroused to participate in the process simply because you think your ideologically driven solution is best threatens the very underpinnings of government, the consent of the governed.

Strike!
Previously, government regulations stipulated, for example, how much time a mathematics professor was supposed to spend on teaching and how much on research. The LRU reforms aim to give more control over such matters to the universities themselves, so that university presidents would have discretion to, say, shift around teaching loads, rewarding those who are productive in research by assigning them fewer teaching hours and upping the teaching loads of those doing less research. The buzzwords are “autonomy” and “local control”, which sound reasonable and perhaps even desirable. But French academics are more comfortable basing such decisions on government regulations, which are seen as impartial and even-handed.
Chavez, Obama, and the Andromeda nebula
Chavez asked Obama to withdraw U.S. forces from the Palmerola air base in Honduras (also known as Soto Cano) and from Guantanamo Bay which the U.S. Navy has used as a base in Cuba for over a century. "Until when? Get with it, Obama -- get with it, brother," Chavez said. Chop, chop.

American Health Care isn't...
I’m a businessman, and in no sense a health-care expert. But the persistence of bad industry practices—from long lines at the doctor’s office to ever-rising prices to astonishing numbers of preventable deaths—seems beyond all normal logic, and must have an underlying cause. There needs to be a business reason why an industry, year in and year out, would be able to get away with poor customer service, unaffordable prices, and uneven results—a reason my father and so many others are unnecessarily killed.

Pinko lords vs stinking peasants
The entire intellectual infrastructure behind the stimulus, the bailouts, the auto-industry takeover, and the proposed health-care takeover rests on the assumption that the people who staff the Obama administration are smarter, better, more caring, and more decent than you yahoos out there in the general public, who simply cannot be trusted to make your own decisions about important matters, such as what sort of health insurance to purchase or whether to buy a car that gets 20 miles per gallon or 22 miles per gallon. Given that line of thinking, it’s easy to understand why Obama’s partisans would dismiss those citizens who dare to criticize his proposal as “the mob.”

There is absolutely no legal requirement to be polite in the defense of this right. And such rights cannot be negotiated away over beer.

Meanwhile, Kolakowski was at work on his three-volume Main Currents of Marxism, which appeared at the end of the 1970s and constitutes one of the most searching investigations of the worldview that had dominated his youth. To state the thesis very briefly, Kolakowski's argument was that Stalinism was not, after all, an aberration of Marxism. It was, rather, its logical culmination. It is not necessary to agree completely with this thesis in order to admire the relentless logic of its presentation. If there has ever been a detailed rebuttal written by any Marxist scholar, I have not seen it
